CBS has cancelled The Bridge (?!?!?)
I've just heard some really sad news.

The rumour is that CBS have cancelled The Bridge :'(
Apparently they won't even be airing this weeks episode.
Annabellaannabella on July 20th, 2010 10:30 pm (UTC)
Don't be too sad. CBS is ridiculous.
Ariestessariestess on July 20th, 2010 10:43 pm (UTC)
ahhh... So CBS really IS trying to kill itself as a "major" station. Got it.

BTW, according to this article, CBS are supposedly planning to air all of the episodes up thru September some time. And pretty much every single comment on that article states that CBS did shit to advertise the show, which is true. I watch enough CBS primetime shows, even in summer reruns, and there's been basically nothing.

ETA :: In the comments [of which there was 1 negative out of 41 total comments], someone mentioned this article, which states that CTV did renew for a second season, but nothing showing when S2 would air...

You got me all excited for a second there :) But that article reads .... "CBS has 11 more episodes of The Bridge. As currently scheduled, they'll run on Saturday nights through September. With ratings like these, that seems highly unlikely to happen".

That article was written as though CBS were going to air all 13 episodes, which would mean it would air through September if they were. But CBS were never going to air all 13 episodes. They were only airing 7 of them and now there not even doing that.

I've brought the season pass on iTunes. I hope that means they'll still upload the other 4 episodes on iTunes.

EDIT: In response to your ETA ... CTV have renewed it for a S2 but all of the actors contracts have expired and so far there has been no word on when the actors are due to start filming in Toronto. Unfortunately there's a big difference between ordering a second season and it actually happening.

Sorry about that! I must have misread it in my own excitement. *chuckles*

At this point, I'm starting to think that CBS really never intended for this show to last. No advertising, a crappy time slot in the middle of summer, and barely letting 3 eps play before pulling it? And that's after only agreeing to air half of the series [and partially out of order at that]? Yeah, they were intending to kill this show before anyone really knew it ever existed. Asshats...

I take that back :)

I'm hearing some whispers. It's good news. But I don't want to say anything more just yet and jinx it.
Ariestessariestess on July 20th, 2010 11:02 pm (UTC)
Re: ETA... Yeah, that's true. I'd forgotten about that thing with the actors' contracts.

I think I'm just gonna need to take a trip up to Vangroovy and buy this on DVD, along with The Collector, since it's been 4-5 years since any word was last heard about that coming to the US.
Michelle: Aaron Car Rallymeshel73 on July 20th, 2010 11:20 pm (UTC)
Did The Collector never air in the USA? I saw all the episodes because I downloaded them via torrents when they aired in Canada. Wow, it has been 5 years. It's 5 years next week since Gatecon changed from being a Stargate con to a SciFi con and the actors from BSG, The Collector, etc attended. I still remember like it was yesterday... "Who the hell is Aaron Douglas?!?!?". "What the f-ck is Battlestar Galactica?". "I don't know!!! I don't watch SciFi". "Alright, I'll go over and ask him to come sit with us". "What does he look like? Point him out to me".
Ariestessariestess on July 20th, 2010 11:27 pm (UTC)
No, it never aired in the US. I know Ellen Dubin was really trying to get it to air here, but it never did. And that really ticks me off, because the bits I'd seen at GC and TD really made me like it.

LOL! I remember shatterpath chatting with Aaron about the Seahawks @ Margaritaville before the con started. She jokes that he "accosted" her over her Seahawks hat with an "OMG! Is that a Seahawks hat?" And she NEVER misses a chance to talk about her beloved Seahawks with another fan. I kept staring at him, trying to figure out WHY he looked so damned familiar. Then it hit me that it was Aaron. CMU!

I've still got video of you (somewhere) asking Aaron during the auction if his kilt wearing is regimental. At least I think it's you, I haven't watched it in 5 years.
Ariestessariestess on July 21st, 2010 02:48 pm (UTC)
Aha! I don't remember if I asked him that, but if it was during the auction, I was probably drinking, so anything's possible.
jamieaddictjamieaddict on July 21st, 2010 12:27 am (UTC)
You are so right. CBS did a shitty job to advertise the show. Hell, I don't even remember seeing any kind of promo for it at all! Too bad a better channel like F/X didn't pick it up. Frak you CBS!
Ariestessariestess on July 21st, 2010 12:29 am (UTC)
I'd love one of the cable channels to pick it up. All the best programming seems to be coming out of cable channels lately...
Michelle: Aaron Car Rallymeshel73 on July 21st, 2010 12:33 am (UTC)
From your mouth to the Cable Channel God's ears :)

So say we all...
Aridirty_grrl on July 21st, 2010 12:04 am (UTC)
Saturday's episode still comes up on my DVR "To Do" list, so hopefully that means it's still airing.
kathm13 on July 21st, 2010 12:17 am (UTC)
My strange Computer/television hybrid thing shows that it's recording the next two, so maybe the reports of the Bridge's death have been exaggerated.
Michelle: Aaron Car Rallymeshel73 on July 21st, 2010 12:22 am (UTC)
It's still showing on their schedule as well.

I really hope it's just a rumour that CBS have cancelled it.

Got to love how they are killing good shows off that their test audience don't like. I swear it was the same group that killed off Defying Gravity too. They just got back together, watched a few episodes of each show and said yea or no to it for the companies to pick it up. Either that or they are using another octopus to help pick shows for the CBS and ABC to view.
Michelle: Aaron Car Rallymeshel73 on July 21st, 2010 12:32 am (UTC)
I don't think this has anything to do with test audiences. The ratings were just really bad. But what can they expect when they don't advertise the show at all and it is airing at 8pm on a Saturday during summer.
Toddnavytron89 on July 21st, 2010 01:19 am (UTC)
Re: No advertising
They did the same thing to Defying Gravity. But they had already produced the 1st Season. The rest is now fanfiction and the writers of the show planning to put the show in novelization format. The only thing I hate about that is the scene jumping to before they left on Earth.

CBS execs also put the kibosh on Katee joining the CSI cast last year. The show producers wanted her. CBS not so much.
Simonesimone7418 on July 21st, 2010 01:39 am (UTC)
CBS pulled this same bs move with Miami Medical, they gave it the axe after two episodes but continued to air the additional episodes (out of order I might add) until they had no more.

I just caught up with the show on my dvr today and found myself looking forward to seeing where the series could go.
Michelle: Aaron Car Rallymeshel73 on July 21st, 2010 01:44 am (UTC)
I *loved* Miami Medical. It sucked how they aired the episodes out of order.

But fingers crossed that CBS will at least air the remaining episode of The Bridge.
Simonesimone7418 on July 21st, 2010 01:48 am (UTC)
I'm keeping my fingers crossed too and trying to word an email to send to CBS (for all the good that it'll do) to express how much they've disappointed me.

I've lost count of how many shows they've done this to this year. Ghost Whisperer, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Gary Unmarried, Miami Medical and I know that there's more.

Why can't they at least give a show a chance especially after giving it one of the time slots of death! They're really starting to remind me of Fox. I still get bitter when I think about Firefly and Dollhouse.
greygreycoupon on July 21st, 2010 03:46 am (UTC)
I have no idea why they put it on Saturday and expected it to do well? That is a ridiculous timslot. Kandyse's extended mini-series thingy on ABC also was just yanked from Mondays to Saturdays. Generally anything aired then is reruns or whatever the network wants to burn off.

What? Is CBS trying to become the new FOX? O_o
